One Week to Go – Deepdale Christmas Market

With just one week until the Deepdale Christmas Market, the artisans & producers are preparing for another fantastic weekend of festive cheer and visitors are ready to tick items off the Christmas list as they buy those not on the high street presents, decorations, food and drink.

When you gather together the best selection of Norfolk and East of England artisans and producers, and you welcome thousands of people to your village, there is naturally a sense of nervousness and excitement.  Estelle and Jason, the main organisers of the Deepdale Christmas Market, have worked on the plan for a year, and in a few days time the festive village will come into being.

Regular stall holders like Candi Robertson from Candi’s Chutney know what to expect from the Deepdale Christmas Market weekend, ‘I love the atmosphere and seeing so many friendly faces, both visitors and fellow stall holders, always a great event in the festive calendar.’  And James Buttifant with his penguin pictures, who attended the first market back in 2008, ‘This was my first event and so it has a very special place in my heart.  I love the atmosphere.  I also set up a studio in the pop up shops for a week in the Summer, so Dalegate Market is one of my favourite places.’

As always, the mix of stalls changes year on year, you’ll find old favourites and new additions, but quality and friendliness of stall holders is the key to how stalls are chosen.

The catering stands will keep you fed and watered, while you wander the marquees, barn and church finding everything from biscotti to special gins, wooden decorations to Norfolk tea, beard products to hoodies … You really can find every present you need, and chat with the producers, giving so much more to the gift you are buying.

‘We always want Deepdale Christmas Market to be a happy friendly event, as much about celebrating great artisans and producers, as it is about enjoying the festive atmosphere.’ said Jason Borthwick.  ‘There are so many people that make this wonderful weekend possible, from Stephen, our Estate Caretaker (and sheriff (long story)), the team from The Hunstanton Lions who help us car park, the crew of Deepdale Backpackers & Camping, the St Mary’s Church team, the shops and café of Dalegate Market, Tim and his team of electricians, the musicians, first aiders, security, Abacus Marquees, and so many others.  Cheers to all of them and to everyone who support the Deepdale Christmas Market.  With hope we can raise even more for charity this year, after our record breaking £10,000 in 2018.’

Stalls are mainly housed in large marquees around the Dalegate Market shops and café, in the Brick Barn of Deepdale Backpackers & Camping, and in St Mary’s Church.  Come along, explore, munch a mince pie, enjoy a hot drink, maybe some lunch, and then explore some more.

Don’t forget the highlight of the weekend, the Christmas Jumper Flash Mob on Sunday 1st December at 2.30pm, when the Deepdale crew gather together fans of the Christmas Jumper with a weird and wonderful selection of festive outfits.  Join them, and show off your favourite Christmas Jumper!

See you in Burnham Deepdale next Friday!

Deepdale Christmas Market is open from 10am to 5pm on Friday 29th November, Saturday 30th November and Sunday 1st December.  Entry is FREE, and car parking is FREE, although The Hunstanton Lions would love a donation if you are passing one of their buckets.
