Deepdale Podcast – Groundswell, Open Air Theatre & Open Farm Sunday – July 2021

Thanks for listening to the June 2021 episode of the Deepdale Podcast, produced by the team of Deepdale Farm, Deepdale Camping & Rooms and Dalegate Market in Burnham Deepdale on the beautiful North Norfolk Coast.

This month Jason & Nathan actually saw people, spending time at Groundswell, open air theatre at Dalegate Market, and Open Farm Sunday at Deepdale Farm, so there were lots of people to chat with, and many were gracious enough to let us record them too.

Nathan & Jason at Groundswell

Nicknamed the Farmer’s Glastonbury by Nathan’s wife Harriet, Nathan and Jason loved their time at Groundswell, and were very excited to see twinkly lights and a circus tent as they arrived on site. The event is all about regenerative agriculture, with talks, demonstrations, workshops, stands and best of all a pub called the Earthworm Arms. The boys catch up with Harry from Future Biogas, eat up the brain food & inspiration, enjoy the atmosphere, but are a little disappointed by the lack of face makeup and sandles.

While at Groundswell, Jason persuaded a few of the very inspiring visitors and stand holders to chat with him for the Deepdale Podcast.

Ian Robertson

Sustainable Soil Management

While standing in a field at Groundswell, Jason chats with Ian about the science behind the soil testing that we’ve carried out at Deepdale, and Ian neatly explains its about unlocking the potential of the soil by finding the tailormade remedy for each field. There is no one silver bullet.

Catherine Temple

Mrs Temple’s Cheese

Funny the people you bump into in the Earthworm Arms at Groundswell. Lovely to see Catherine, aka Mrs Temple’s Cheese, and even nicer that she was happy to chat on mic about regenerative agriculture and cheese making.

Hugh Somerleyton

WildEast

Right near the start of WildEast, Jason pledged land at Deepdale for wildlife, so it was great to catch up with one of the founders of this movement, Hugh. He explains the idea behind WildEast, and how to pledge your support.

Ian Wilkinson

FarmED & Cotswold Seeds

Nathan had visited FarmED, and was impressed with the public engagement it offers, all with a regenerative agriculture basis. Jason chats with Ian about engagement and how regen ag is becoming a movement with serious momentum.

Jason chats with The Pantaloons

It was lovely to welcome back The Pantaloons to Dalegate Market with their hilarious version of Pride & Prejudice.

Jason chats with the cast about life on the road as a touring actor, and strangely (for open air theatre in the UK) weather is a major topic of conversation.

Open Farm Sunday

We really enjoyed welcoming so many visitors to Deepdale Farm for our first Open Farm Sunday. Lots of conversations and two farm tours. Jason grabbed the opportunity to chat with a couple of the exhibitors in between explaining the machinery and crop rotation of the farm.

Ursula Juta

Norfolk Rivers Trust

Jason grabs a quick chat with Ursula about her role in Norfolk Rivers Trust and the wildlife she’s helping us discover on the farm, particularly glass eels and potentially otters.

Richard Rood

Green Woodworking Courses

Many of you will recognise Richard from multiple events at Deepdale, and this Winter he’s running courses on the farm. He was demonstrating at Open Farm Sunday, chatting to visitors about his craft and the courses he’ll be running.

What’s On at Deepdale

After a busy June, July is a calmer month at Deepdale, with no major events taking place. The street food offerings are still on each week, and the pop up shops at Dalegate Market continue to change weekly hosting artisans & producers.. Locally there’s lots going on including exhibitions, workshops, open gardens and more. The list continues to grow and you can check out more information online at deepdalecamping.co.uk/events/
