Colours of Venice Trevor Woods

A major one-man exhibition at Gallery Plus, Wells, by Trevor Woods inspired by returning trips to Venice.

The buildings and the history of Venice provides a superb source of material for paintings – and has done for centuries with many artists covering the classical scenes – but for this exhibition Trevor has gone beyond that and sought out the nooks and crannies, the rhythm, the light and shade, and the ebb and flow of the floating city. There is so much to explore on the islands that make up Venice, especially when you head off the well-beaten tourist track. Getting lost and following the signs, which send you round and round in circles, is all part of the adventure! Everything constantly moves in Venice: from the visitors and residents, to the boats and the pontoons; and from the washing hanging across the canals, to the reflections in St Marc's Square when it's flooded and you go for a paddle! This exhibition is about stopping time, freezing the frame, and producing paintings that are a snapshot of Venice seen through Trevor's eyes. Featuring over 30 brand new paintings of Venice, Burano, and Murano, this exhibition is going to be an explosion of colour!
