The Gillies are an Americana/Folk singer/songwriter duo based in South East London, but with roots deep in the heart of Norfolk. 'Music for your graveside' is one way they describe their songs. True, there's darkness in there but the graveside is also a place to reflect on life, love, loss and the moments that confirm our existence, They can convey all that in just one song. Their sound is dark and sparse, a weaving together of steel-strung and tenor guitars, flits between the ethereal and gritty down-home reality, understated melodies which pull you into their haunting songs of love and loss, the complications of tangled relationships. Delivered with unaffected clarity, their work combines bittersweet immediacy with an intangible sense of nostalgia.
They are returning to the Deepdale Festival after a few years, with a new album 'Masonry Nails', recorded during the first lockdown, and have a brand new EP with them!
This was the programme for Deepdale Festival 2022, our 5th annual festival. We had a fabulous weekend, with an amazing range of musical talent including national and local bands.
