Migration is one of the wonders of the natural world. Why do birds do it? Where do they come from? What hazards do they encounter on the way?

Outdoor Workshop , Holkham | Migration is one of the wonders of the natural world. Why do birds do it? Where do they come from? What hazards do they encounter on the way? | outdoor, workshop, bird, nature

Holkham's geographical location and unique diversity of habitats makes the National Nature Reserve an internationally important site for migratory birds and one of the UK's premier birdwatching locations. Each year, thousands of waders, warblers, wildfowl, sea birds, song birds and raptors stop off at Holkham to feed, shelter and breed. Found amongst them are rarities such as the Red Flanked Bluetail, Pallas's Warbler, White Tailed Eagle and last year's exciting spot, the Citril Finch. In this outdoor workshop, led by our local birding expert, you will explore the pine woods, fresh marsh, sand dunes, scrub and beach along the reserve's 18km of coastline. As well as spending time finding and watching rarities, you will have the chance to learn about all these amazing birds' journeys, the effect climate change is having on the birds that visit and how our reserve wardens work to conserve the precious ecosystems of north Norfolk. Tickets: £15 per adult. Booking is recommended as spaces are limited. To book telephone Holkham Ticket Office on 01328 713111. Meet at Lady Anne's Drive, Holkham Beach, Holkham, Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk NR23 1RJ. Car parking charges apply.

Price: £15
