.. from Cley-next-the-sea to Titchwell Nature Reserve in easy 4 – 6 mile stages, using the Coasthopper bus to get us to these bird-rich habitats. This gives us an unrivalled opportunity to see many species of resident ducks, waders, seabirds and geese as well as some of the thousands of migrating birds that pass through here in late spring. We may see terns, oyster catchers, avocets, marsh harriers, godwits, redshanks and even the rare bittern on the tidal flats or from hides overlooking saltmarshes, lagoons, and whispering reedbeds. On one day we might take a trip by boat to see the Blakeney Point seal colony (not included).

In May, we can also enjoy the spectacle of diving, screeching terns over the sea and breeding waders in the purple mass of sea-lavender on the pristine salt marshes. Also, on at least one evening we can listen out for the hauntingly beautiful calls of unusual and rare late spring / early summer visitors like nightingales and nightjars.

The holiday is based at the very comfortable Red Lion in Stiffkey, an eco-friendly hotel opened in 2008. The rooms are light and airy and the sedum roof keeps rooms warm in winter and cool in summer. Each room has either a balcony or a private terrace, giving a feel of privacy. Meals are taken in the welcoming bar, popular with locals and visitors alike.

Price: £595, 4 nights full board

Location: Red Lion, Stiffkey
